Building a work table
Before building the frame of the work table, we recommend you to adjust its size and shape to suit your needs. Cut the components after taking accurate measurements and lock them together with galvanized screws. Drill pilot holes through the braces and insert the 2 1/2″ screws into the posts. Plumb the legs and check if the corners are right-angled. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the bond.
Attach the frame of the tabletop to the legs of the work table and secure them into place with screws. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the supports before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Check if the supports are horizontal before attaching the rest of the components. In addition, make sure the corners are right-angled. Add waterproof glue to the supports before attaching the shelf.
Attaching the bottom shelf into place is a simple process, but you need to pay attention to several aspects. First of all, we recommend you to mark the cut lines on the sheet of plywood and make the cuts with a proper circular saw. Fit the shelf into place and align at all ends before inserting the screws into the supports.
One of the last steps is to fit the tabletop to the frame of the work table and to secure it into place with finishing nails. In order to enhance the rigidity of the structure, we recommend you to add glue to the top edges of the top supports.
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Check if the components are secured into place properly and if the structure is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that could injure you.
PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay.
