Therefore, I took my time to design an improved version of those plans, but keeping the simplicity of the construction so you don’t spend a fortune of the materials. Building a deer stand

STEP 1: Building the deer stand floor

Building the floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame for the 4×8 deer stand. As you can see in the diagram, you need to cut the joists from 2×4 lumber. Lay the components on a level surface and align the edges flush. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to assemble the frame. Make sure the corners are square.

Fitting the skids

You can attach 4×4 skids under the deer stand or you could build a base tower for it. If you choose to use the skids, make sure the ground is level and use rafter ties to secure the skids to the floor frame.

Fitting the floor sheets

Fit the 3/4″ tongue and groove plywood sheets to the floor frame and align the edges flush. Leave no gaps between the sheets and secure them into place, every 8″ along the joists, using 1 5/8 screws. Invest in pressure treated plywood.

STEP 2: Building the wall frames for the deer blind

Back wall frame

The next step of the project is to build the wall frames for the deer blind. Cut the 2×4 components at the right dimensions and drill pilot holes through the plates. Insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock the plates to the studs. Make sure the corners are square. As you can see in the plans, you need to frame a window to the wall frames so you can have a good view.

Front wall frame

Use 2×4 lumber for the front wall frame. Use 2×4 lumber for the double header. You can adjust the size of the door opening to suit your needs.

Side wall frame

Build the side wall frames for the deer stand, using the same techniques described above. Notice the large windows on the sides of the stand, so you have a 360 degree view on the field. You can make modifications to suit your needs.

Assembling the frame of the deer stand

Fit the wall frames to the floor and plumb them with a spirit level. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor. Lock the adjacent walls together with 3 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square.

STEP 3: Building the lean to shed roof for the 4×8 deer stand

Building the rafters

Next, you need to build the rafters from 2×6 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the beams and then get the job done with circular saw.

Building the roof frame

Fit the rafters to the top of the shed and place them equally spaced. Secure the rafters to the top plates with ties. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock the rafters to the top plates of the frame.

STEP 4: Attaching the wall panels to the deer stand

Tall side wall panels

Use 3/4″ plywood for the exterior wall panels. You can use 1/2″ plywood, as well, if you want to keep the costs down. Mark the cut lines on the panels and make the cuts with a circular saw. Align the edges with attention and use 1 5/8″ screws or 6d nails to lock the panels to the framing.

Small wall side panels

Cut and fit the panels to the opposite side of the deer stand. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to cut out the window openings.

Front wall panel

Attach the panel to the front of the deer stand.

Back wall panel

Attach the plywood panel to the back of the deer stand.

Front and back roof overhangs

Use 2×4 lumber for the overhangs. Use a miter saw to make the angle cuts to both ends of the overhangs, as shown in the diagram.

Fitting the side roof overhangs

Fit the overhangs to the exterior of the deer stand, as shown in the plans. Align the edges with attention and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

Fitting the roof sheets

Attach the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the roof of the shed. Leave no gaps between the sheets and insert 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the rafters.

Fitting the roofing

In order to waterproof the deer blind, you have to cover the roofing sheets with felt. Make sure the strips of roofing felt overlap at least 2-3″ and staple them to the plywood sheets every 8″. Continue the project by installing the asphalt shingles. Place the starting course at the bottom of the roof, before fitting the rest of the shingles.

PRO TIP: Always read the manufacturer’s instructions, before installing the shingles. They provide essential information about the installation of the shingles.

STEP 5: Building the door for the deer stand

Building the door

The door panel is the piece you have cut out in the previous step, when attaching the front wall to the frame of the deer stand. Use 2×4 lumber for the frame of the door. Attach the boards to the panel and align the edges flush. Insert 1 5/8″ screws through the panel into the boards.

Fitting the door

Fit the door to the opening and lock it to the front wall with hinges. Install a latch to keep the door locked while you are out.

Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Apply a few coats of paint over the exterior of the shed. Attach the windows to the opening or use the panels that you cut out, as basic blinds.
