Building a pedestal table

Building the base of the table

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the base of the pedestal table. In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to cut the 1×12 slats at the right size and to assemble them together with galvanized screws and waterproof glue. Align the components at both ends before drilling pocket holes and inserting the 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the rigidity of the frame.

Attaching the base to the tabletop

Cutting the round tabletop is a complex process, as you need to trace an accurate guideline and to get the job done with a jigsaw. Smooth the cut edges with a piece of sandpaper and center the base to the tabletop, as shown in the image. Drill pocket holes at the bottom of the base components and insert galvanized screws into the tabletop. Add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Attaching the supports

In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to attach 1×4 legs to the base of the pedestal table. Cut the components at the right size and shape before drilling pocket holes at one end. Insert galvanized screws to secure them to the base of the pedestal table. Add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the joints.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Check if the components are secured into place properly and if the structure is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that could injure you.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay.
