Next, you need to build the seat frame. Cut the components from 2×4 beams. Drill pilot holes through the long beams and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the supports. Make sure the corners are right angled.

Fitting the seat frame

Next, you need to build a frame from 2x4s that will support the top trims of the planter. Assemble the frame and then fit it to the planter, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the seat frame and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the small frame.

We recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough for your garden. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the project to learn more about building garden projects.

Why do you cut the 2 x4s for the planters at 15 degrees? That’s the only part I don’t understand. Thank you for all of these plans – I just build the 2 x 4 shed, now considering this planter bench for our hot tub deck. 🙂
