Clamp Rack Plans
The first step of the project is to build the base of the clamp rack. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the side components out of 1×8 lumber and to join them together with finishing nails. Cut the base out of 3/4″ plywood, using the information shown in the plans. Align everything at both ends add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to enhance the rigidity of the structure.
Building the sides of the rack is a straight-forward step, if you take accurate measurements and use a professional circular saw. Mark the cut lines on the slats with a pencil and adjust the shape of the slats, as shown in the plans. Smooth the cut edges with a piece of sandpaper, in order to get a professional result.
Continue the woodworking project by fitting the supports between the two sides of the rack. Cut the supports at the right size, drill pocket holes at both ends and insert the appropriate screws into the sides of the structure. Place a spirit level on top of the supports to check if they are perfectly horizontal.
One of the last steps of the project is to attach the caster wheels to the bottom of the clamp rack. Align the wheels as in the plans and secure them to the bottom of the clamp rack with galvanized screws.
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Check if the components are secured into place properly and if the structure is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that could injure you.
PRO TIP:Â Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay.
