Birdhouse Plans Free
The first step of the project is to build the components of the bird house. As you can easily notice in the image, you need to cut the components from 1×8 and 1×6 lumber. After marking the guidance lines on the wooden sheets, you need to get the job done with a circular saw with a sharp blade. Always smooth the cut lines with medium-grit sandpaper.
As you can see in the image, you need to cu a small round hole in the front face of the birdhouse. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to use a hole saw drill bit and a drill machinery. Alternatively, you could drill a starting holes and make the round hole with a jigsaw.
The next step of the woodworking project is to assemble the birdhouse. Drill pilot holes trough the faces of the birdhouse and insert 1 1/4″ finishing nails into the side components. Make sure you also add waterproof glue to enhance the bond of the joints. Always align the components at both ends before inserting the screws / nails.
Attach the bottom of the birdhouse, making sure it recesses about 1/4″ from the four corners of the wooden box. Nevertheless, we recommend you to drill pilot holes trough the sides of the birdhouse and insert 2″ wood screws. Make sure you don’t insert the nails / screws all the way, as you need to remove the bottom and clean the interior of the birdhouse.
The next step of the free woodworking project is to attach the roof. In order to get the job done as a professional, we recommend you to center the pieces of wood to the frame of the birdhouse and lock it into place with 1 1/4″ finishing nails. Add glue to the joints, in order to enhance the rigidity of the wooden structure.
Last but not least, there are several aspects you should take into account. Therefore, you should fill the holes with wood filler and smooth the wooden surface after it dries out. In addition, check if the front opens properly.
PRO TIP:Â Apply several coats of paint over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Make sure you choose light colors, such as green or white. Take a look on these simple birdhouse plans, if you want a basic birdhouse design.
