Invest in high-quality materials and take accurate measurements before assembling the feeder together.

Adjust the size of the feeder to the species you are trying to attract to your yard. In addition, we recommend you to hang the feeder at last 6′ above the ground, as to protect the squirrels from cats and others predators. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner. Insert several nails to get a professional result.

Building the back support

Building the back support

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the back wall of the squirrel feeder. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the top of the support in a decorative manner. Mark the cut lines with a pencil and get the job done with a jigsaw. Smooth the cut lines with sandpaper and remove the residues with a cleaner.

Continue the project by attaching the bottom component to the back support, as shown in the image. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws/finishing nails, in order to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to enhance the bond of the joint.

Building the side walls

The next step of the woodworking project is to build the side components. Cut the top of the slats at degrees, by using a nice miter saw. Drilling the entrances for the squirrels is essential for the garden project, so make sure you cut out the holes as round as possible. Make grooves on the interior faces of the slats in order to fit the transparent front wall in a professional manner.

Building the roof for the feeder is one of the last steps of the project, so make sure you pay attention to the instructions described in the diagram. Cut the ends of the roof pieces at the right angle and join them together with waterproof glue and nails.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough to support the soil. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the projects to learn more about building garden projects.
