If you want to learn more about wooden box plans, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article and to plan everything with great care. Cut the components at the right size and lock them together with screws, after drilling pilot holes. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to get a professional result.

Invest in high-quality materials, such as cedar, redwood or pine, and make sure the slats are perfectly straight and in a very good condition. Align the components with great care and make sure there are no gaps between the components before inserting the screws. You could also build several wooden boxes and stack them, as they are designed as to use the space efficiently.

Building a wooden box

Building the faces of the wooden box

Building the faces of the wooden box

The first step of the woodworking project is about building the faces f the wooden box. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the 1×12 slats at the right size and to cut out the handles, as shown in the image. Mark the cut lines, drill a starting holes and make the holes with a jig saw. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a vacuum cleaner.

Fitting the side walls

Continue the woodworking project by attaching the sides to the faces of the wooden box. Cut the side components at the right size and lock them to the faces with finishing nails. Drill pilot holes before inserting the nails, to prevent the wood from splitting. Leave no gaps between the components and make sure the corners are right-angled.

Attaching the bottom of the box

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the bottom to the wooden box. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to attach the plywood piece to the wooden box and secure it into place with finishing nails. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Attaching the top supports

Cut two pieces of 1×2 lumber and secure them to the sides of the wooden box, as shown in the plans. Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert 1 1 /4″ galvanized screws into the frame of the box. Add waterproof glue to enhance the bond of the components.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough to support the soil. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the project to learn more about building garden projects.
