Step 1: Building the Frame
First, you need to build the base frame for the miter saw station. Cut the parts from 1×4 lumber and align the edges flush. Make sure the corners are square. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws. Add glue to the joints.
Next, attach the 2×4 legs to the base frame. You can adjust the height at which you place the base frame. Clamp the legs to the frame and make sure the corners are square. Drill pilot holes through the frame and insert 1 5/8″ screws into the legs. Insert at lest 4 screws for each joint.
Attach the 2×4 legs to the middle of the miter saw station, using the same techniques described above.
Use 1×4 lumber for the miter saw table. Cut the components at the right dimensions and attach them to the legs using 1 5/8″ screws. Notice the double supports that are placed on both sides of the frame. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush.
Build the frames for the side extensions. Cut the components from 1×4 lumber and attach them to the legs. Align the edges flush and check if the corners are square. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the components into place.
Use 1×4 lumber for the cleats that will lock the miter saw frame to the side extension frames together. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws to attach the cleats into place.
Step 2: Attaching the Shelves
Use 3/4″ plywood for the lower shelves. Use a saw to make notches to the sheets, so you can fit them around the legs. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the piece to the frame, every 8″.
Use 3/4″ plywood for the side extensions. Cut the pieces as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the piece to the frame.
Attach the 3/4″ plywood piece to the miter saw table. Align the edges flush and insert 2″ nails to lock it into place tightly. Add glue to the joints and use a few clamps to enhance the strength of the bond.
As you can see in the plans, the miter saw table features a dedicated area for a vacuum, so you can keep everything dust-free. You can fit caster wheels to the legs and make the saw station mobile.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of stain to enhance the look of the stand.
