Building a bar stool
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the bar stool. As you can see in the plans, we recommend you to build the frame of the bar by using 2×2 lumber. Cut the components at the right size by using a circular saw.
PRO TIP: Take accurate measurements before making the cuts, otherwise the components might not fit together properly. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the legs with 2 1/2″ screws.
The next step of the project is to lock the both sides of the stool together by installing the rest of the components, as shown in the plans. Cut the 2×2 support at the right dimension and lock them together with pocket screws and waterproof glue. Make sure the ends of the supports are flush with the rest of the components before inserting the screws.
One of the last steps of the project is to attach the seat to the top of the frame. In order to get the job done in a highly professional manner, we suggest you to cut a piece of 1×16 lumber or any other material you like. Smooth the cut edges of the seat and lock the piece to the frame with waterproof glue and nails. Drill pilot holes through the support and drive the nails into the seat, making sure they won’t go through the whole thickness of the material.
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Check if the components are secured into place properly and if the frame is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that could injure you.
PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay.
