Greenhouse Bench Plans

by Thomas

This step by step diy woodworking project is about greenhouse bench plans. If you want to build a simple workbench for your backyard greenhouse, you should pay attention to the instructions described din this article. Always plan everything from the very beginning and adjust the size of the workbench to your needs. A proper planning will prevent mistakes and it will keep the costs at a decent level.

It is essential to invest in high quality materials if you want to get the job done in a professional manner and to enjoy the workbench for many years in a row. The lumber should be weather-resistant as it will have to face moisture and sunlight, so choose something like cedar, pine or redwood. Select straight boards and avoid the ones that have visible flaws, such as chips, cracks or wanes.

Building a work bench

Building the frame of the bench

Building the frame of the bench

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the greenhouse table. Therefore, adjust the size of the components at the right size and lock them together with 2 1/2″ screws. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and check if the corners are right angled before driving the screws in.

Attaching the slats

Attaching the slats

Continue the garden project by attaching the 1×6 slats to the framing, as shown in the free plans. Drill pilot holes and countersink the head of the screws before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws into the cleats, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner. Place the slats equally spaced or leave no space between them by gluing them together.

Attaching the trims

Attaching the trims

If want to enhance the look of the work bench we recommend you to attach 1×3 trims to the exterior of the slats. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut both ends of the slats at 45 degrees by using a miter saw. Align the trims with great care and lock them to the ends of the slats with waterproof glue and finishing nails.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and if the frame is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay.
