  • G – 1×1 lumber – 1/4″ thick TRIMS

Building the sides of the doll house

Building the sides of the doll house

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the doll house. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the side walls out of 1×12 lumber, using the pattern and instructions described in the article. Cut out the windows with a jigsaw and smooth the edges with sandpaper.

Continue the woodworking project by fitting the shelves between the two sides of the doll house. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the 1×12 slats at the right size and to fit them between the side walls. Make sure the corners are right-angled and drill pocket holes at both ends of the components before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws.

Attach the roof into place, after cutting the back edge at 60 degrees. Secure the piece of lumber to the frame with finishing nails. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.

Cut a piece of 1/4″ plywood at the dimensions shown in the diagram and secure it to the back of the doll house with finishing nails. Leave no gaps between the components and make sure the corners are right-angled.

If you want to enhance the look of the doll house, we recommend you to attach 1×1 (1/4″ thick) trims around the windows. Secure the trims to the side walls with waterproof glue or finishing nails.

Attaching the trims to the base of the doll house is a straight-forward project that will add value to you project. Work with attention and align the components before securing the trims to the frame with finishing nails and waterproof glue.

Although this step is optional, building the doors is will enhance the look of the doll house. Build the doors out of 3/4″ plywood, making sure you follow the pattern described in the diagram.

Attach trims around the windows, in order to get the job done in a professional manner. Fit trims on both sides of the door, if you want to get a nice appearance.

Fit the doors into place and secure them to the side walls with piano hinges. Check if the doors open easily, before inserting the screws into place. In addition, fit knobs to the doors, in order to open and close them easily.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough to support the soil. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.
