Building a garden planter
Build the frame for the vertical planter by using 2×4 lumber for the posts and 1×4 lumber for the bottom supports. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 1×4 slats and secure them to the posts using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.
The next step of the garden project is to attach the front components to the vertical planter. Cut the components out of 1×4 lumber and smooth the cut edges using fine-grit sandpaper. Secure the components to the front face of the planter using 1 1/4″ screws or finishing nails.
Build the back for the vertical planter out of 3/4″ plywood. Cut the component at the right size and attach it to the back of the wooden structure. Use 2 1/2″ screws to secure it to the frame. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the components.
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough for your garden. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.
Fill the pockets with landscape fabric, which you staple into place. That will protect the wooden structure from decay.
PRO TIP:Â Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the project to learn more about building garden projects.
