Building several raised garden beds is a great start if you plan to grow a large variety of vegetables in your backyard. First of all, the biggest advantage of this system is that it allows you to produce a significant and diverse quantity of vegetables on a small plot of land. Taking into account the limited space you should focus on the plants that you  really like to eat, and take care of them properly and to maximize the harvest.

In these free vegetable garden plans we show you how to organize a 10×10′ space in an efficient manner, as to benefit from fresh vegetables and herbs for a long period of time. As you will see in the project, you should build several large raised beds and a couple of herb contains. Although a 10×10′ raised bed vegetable garden will not provide enough legumes for an average family, it’s still big enough to produce a large variety of fresh vegetables. From our experience, we recommend you to choose those plants that you enjoy eating and that are full of vitamins. As you can see in the image, you can build two large raised beds and several small containers, if you organize everything properly.

Having a small garden is also a great opportunity to experiment. Therefore, you should start by growing a small amount of each type. As you can see in the plans, we have split the large raised beds in two equal blocks. In this manner, you can better organize the vegetables and save time when taking care of them. Therefore, you can grow legumes in one block, root vegetables in the second one, cruciferous vegetables in the third one and the rest of the plants in the forth section. You can also use a basic system of crop rotation, as the next year you should move the each category of plants in another block.

PRO TIP: On the other hand, you could also have fresh herbs if you choose to grow them in the small containers. Nevertheless, don’t forget to space the raised beds properly, leaving at least 15-20″ between them, otherwise you won’t have an easy access with a garden cart.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and if the frame is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges. Moreover, the components should be installed properly, making sure there are no gaps between the slats.

PRO TIP: Plant fast growing salad between plants that mature over a longer period of time. In this manner you can utilize better the vegetable garden and increase the quantity of crops harvested. Cover the pathways with bricks or a thick layer of bark chippings.
