If you want to learn more about how to build an outdoor bar, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions describe din this article. There are lots of outdoor bar plans and designs to choose from, so we really suggest you to take your time when assessing the alternatives. Don’t forget that you can adjust the size and the design of the outdoor bar to suit your needs and tastes.

Invest in high quality materials that are weather-resistant, such as pine, cedar or redwood. Take accurate measurements and adjust the components to the right size before locking them together with screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints  in order to create a rigid structure. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws to prevent the wood from splitting and make sure you leave no gaps between the components.

Building an outdoor bar

Building the frames

Building the frames

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the bottom and the top frames for the outdoor bar. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the components at the right size and to lock them together with galvanized screws. Check if the corners are right-angled and pre-drill pilot holes before inserting the screws to prevent the wood from splitting.

Attaching the legs

Attaching the legs

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the legs to the frames, as shown in the plans. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to attach the legs to the frames, after making sure they are perfectly horizontal. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and lock them into place with galvanized screws.

Attaching the floor slats

Continue the woodworking project by attaching the 1×4 slats to the frame. Make sure you place the slats equally-spaced and secure them into place with galvanized screws. Align the slats at both ends before locking them into place.

Attaching the panels

The next step of the outdoor project is to fit the slats between the legs and to lock them into place with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and secure them to the legs with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws and waterproof glue. Leave 1″ between the slats in order to create a unique pattern, but make sure you do the same thing on all sides of the wooden bar.

Building the tabletop

One of the last steps of the project is to assemble the tabletop of the bar, by using the information described in the image. Cut the components at the right size and lock them together with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes along the edges of the slats and lock them together with screws and waterproof glue.

Center the frame of the bar to the tabletop and secure it into place with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes before inserting the screws into place to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure. See all furniture plans HERE.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough to support the soil. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the project to learn more about building garden projects.
