Building a porch swing
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the porch swing. In order to get a professional result, use 2×4 lumber for the components. Drill pilot holes through the rim components and insert 3 1/2″ screws to create rigid joints. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled. Leave no gaps and make sure the edges are aligned.
Next, fit the 2×4 slats to the frame of the porch swing, as described in the diagram. Place the slats equally spaced and drill pilot holes before inserting the 2 1/2″ screws to prevent the wood from splitting.
Fit the 2×4 supports to the back of the porch swing. Drill pilot holes through the components and plumb the supports before inserting the screws. Add glue to the joints and clamp them together tightly. Use 2 1/2″ screws for the joints.
Fit the 2×4 slats to the back of the porch swing as described in the diagram. Make sure you align the top slat with the edges of the supports before driving the galvanized screws in. Place the slats equally-spaced and leave no gaps between the components. Add glue to the joints for extra-support.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to attach the 2×4 armrests to the porch swing. Cut the components at the right size and lock them together, as described in the diagram. Make sure the corner is right-angled.
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough for your garden. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the project to learn more about building garden projects.
