If you want to learn more about how to build a kids chair, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. Select the right kids chair plans for your needs and invest in high quality materials, if you want to get a professional result. Work with good judgement and browse through the rest of the woodworking projects that are featured on this website, if you want to get a professional result. Make sure the corners are right-angled and lock everything tightly.

There are many designs and plans to choose from before starting the actual assembly. Invest in the best materials you can afford, such as pine, redwood or cedar and select the slats that are straight and in a good visual condition. Align the components at both ends before inserting the screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Building a kids chair

Building the sides of the chair

Building the sides of the chair

The first step of the project is to build the sides of the kids chair. Make sure you use quality materials and take accurate measurements, otherwise the components will not fit together. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the legs with 1 1/4″ screws.

Building the frame of the chair

The next step of the project is to secure the components to the frame of the chair. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the components and secure them to the sides, by using galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled.

Fitting the slats

Fitting the slats

One of the last steps of the project is to attach the slats to the frame of the chair. Drill pilot holes through the seat slats and secure them to the frame with 1 1/4′ screws. On addition, drill pocket holes at both ends of the backrest slats and secure them to the legs with galvanized screws. Work with attention and place the slats equally-spaced.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough to support the soil. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges. See free plans for building a nice large backyard chair, here on my blog.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Check out the rest of the project to learn more about building garden projects.
