If you are an amateur gardener, you probably need lots of storage space for your tools and pots. Therefore, we strongly recommend you to pay attention to the following garden shelves plans. Plan every step of the project from the very beginning and don’t forget to check out the rest of the storage plans, as they might be other plans that could suit your needs and add value to your property.
There are many designs and plans to choose from, so make sure you adjust the size and the appearance of the shelves to suit your needs and to match the style of the backyard. Work with attention and select the lumber properly. Invest in water-resistant materials (pressure-treated lumber, cedar, pine, redwood) and check if they are in a good visual condition and perfectly straight before locking them together.

Garden Shelves Plans
The first step of the garden project is to build the legs of the shelves. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to build the components out of 1×6 lumber. Cut the bottom of the components as shown in the image, if you want to enhance the look of the shelves.
Continue the woodworking project by assembling the three frames of the garden shelves. Cut the 2×3 lumber at the right size and drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to the joints after making sure the corners are right-angled, in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.
Attaching the frames to the wooden legs is a straight-forward process, but it requires attention and lots of good judgement. Plumb the legs of the garage shelves with a spirit level and make sure the frames are perfectly horizontal, before inserting the galvanized screws. Countersink the head of the screws if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.
Continue the woodworking project by attaching the 2×4 slats to the frames, as shown in the image. Drill pilot holes through the slats before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. In addition, we recommend you to place the slats equally spaced, leaving about 1/4″ between them. Check if the corners are right-angled after fitting each slat into place.
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Check if the components are secured into place properly and if the frame is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that could injure you.
PRO TIP:Â Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper. Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect them from decay. Place the shelves on several concrete slabs to protect the legs from water damage.
