Building garage shelving

Building the frame

Building the frame

The first step of the project is to build the four frames of the garage shelving. As you notice in the image, we recommend you to cut the 2×4 lumber at the right size. Afterwards, check if the corners are right-angled and lock them together with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints if necessary.

Attaching the legs

The next step of the project is to attach the legs to the sides of the garage shelving. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and make sure the shelves are equally spaced. Place a spirit level on the frames and check if they are perfectly horizontal.

Attaching the supports

If you want to store heavy items on the shelves we recommend you to attach braces to the front face of the garage shelving. Align the supports with great care, making sure they are perfectly plumb and lock them into place with finishing nails.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Check if the components are secured into place properly and if the frame is rigid. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that could injure your kids.

PRO TIP: Fill the holes with a good wood filler and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper Apply several coats of paint or stain over the components, in order to protect the garage shelves from decay.
