Materials

  • 1 – 4 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 32″ long LEGS
  • 2 – 2 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 34 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 15″ long, 1 piece – 13 1/2″ long TOP FRAME
  • 3 – 2 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 34 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 15″ long FRAME
  • 4 – 2 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 31 1/2″ long, 8 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 13 1/2″ long SHELF
  • 5 – 3 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 38″ long TABLETOP

  • 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 6′
  • 5 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 8′
  • 2 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 6′
  • 2 1/2″ screws
  • 1 5/8″ screws
  • 1 1/4″ screws
  • wood glue, stain/paint

STEP 1:

The first step of the project is to build the top frame for the bbq table. Cut the components from 1×4 slats and then lay them on a level surface. Check if the corners are square and align the edges flush. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws. Add glue to the joints.

 

STEP 2:

Fit the 2×2 legs to the top frame. Clamp the legs to the frame, drill pilot holes through the frame and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the legs.

 

STEP 3:

Attach the 1×4 slats to the base of the bbq table. Align the edges, drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to secure the legs.

 

STEP 4:

Fit the 1×2 cleats to the base of the bbq table. Make sure you leave 3/4″ from the top of the frame to the cleats. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 1/4″ screws to secure the cleats to the frame.

 

STEP 5:

Fit the slats to the lower shelf. Place 1/2″ plywood between the slats to create even gaps. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the slats and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

 

STEP 6:

Fit the 2×6 boards to the top of the bbq table Make sure you center the boards, so you get 1″ side overhangs and 3/4″ front and back overhangs. Drill pocket holes through the top frame of the table and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the tabletop.

I recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough for your garden. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to protect the components from decay.
